DHI offers a variety of dynamic, in-person learning experiences through both local events and on-site programs tailored to your needs.

DHI Classroom Series

DHI’s Classroom Series provides in-person, instructor-led training designed to strengthen foundational and advanced knowledge in non-residential door and hardware systems. Hosted twice a year, and at various locations, these intensive courses offer hands-on learning, real-world application, and direct access to industry experts. The Classroom Series is ideal for professionals seeking immersive education in codes, specifications, installation, and product application, and serves as a critical pathway toward DHI credentials like the DHT, DHC, AHC and CFDAI. Keep your team on-site and on track by bringing DHI classes directly to your location! To do so, submit a completed host application to education@dhi.org and purchase the instructor and student materials for the DHI training classes noted below.

DHI chapters and individuals who have enough participants to host a local class can apply to do so and purchase instructor and student materials for the DHI training classes listed below. Applications must be submitted to education@dhi.org at least six weeks in advance of your class dates.

In-Person Courses

Below is a list of DHI's courses that are offered on an in-person basis. These courses may be offered at a Classroom Series event or can be made available at an In-House or Local education event.

COR117 - Door, Frame, and Architectural Hardware Applications (32 hours)

A 32-hour face-to-face course that teaches how to identify and apply modern door, frame, and hardware components in various construction scenarios. Recommended prerequisites are COR101 and COR102, and the course includes hands-on product samples and practical skills like reading details, selecting components, and resolving hardware conflicts.

COR125 - Takeoff and Estimating (16 hours)

This course teaches core material takeoff and estimating skills to help improve bid accuracy and project profitability. Recommended prerequisites include COR103, COR117, and COR123.

COR140 - Using Codes and Standards (24 hours)

This course explores key industry codes and standards, including NFPA 80, NFPA 105, NFPA 101, IBC, and ICC/ANSI A117.1, with a focus on interpreting requirements for fire-rated and egress openings. Required materials include the latest editions of these codes and standards.

DHC246 - Intro to Detailing Doors, Frames, and Hardware (24 hours)

This face-to-face course is the first in a three-part detailing series, introducing basic coordination and scheduling of doors, frames, and hardware for simple projects. Ideal for those pursuing a DHT credential, it includes hands-on exercises and catalogs provided on a USB drive.

AHC305 - Introduction to Specification Writing (24 hours)

AHC305 (formerly COR147) is a foundational course for those pursuing the AHC credential, focusing on the critical skill of specification writing. Ideal for professionals with two or more years of experience, it builds expertise in reading and drafting clear, accurate, and comprehensive specifications using CSI SectionFormat™.

DHC253 - Installation Coordination and Project Management (16 hours)

DHC253 (formerly COR153) is an advanced course focused on project management and coordinating door, frame, and hardware installations to reduce callbacks and backcharges. It covers installation techniques, common issues, and communication strategies to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.

DHC260 - Material Purchasing Concepts (8 hours)

This course teaches how to effectively manage the order processing stage by coordinating material purchases with project and manufacturing schedules. You'll learn to format purchase orders, confirm discounts, review acknowledgements, and minimize freight charges.

DHC247 - Intermediate Detailing Doors, Frames, & Hardware (32 hours)

This course introduces the fundamentals of creating detailed hardware schedules, a critical skill for coordinating hardware with project requirements. Through in-class exercises, you'll learn to interpret plans, write hardware sets, and apply proper formatting and sequencing techniques.

EHC403 - Electrified Hardware Drawings & Documentation (32 hours) (Only Available Online Instructor Led)

This course teaches how to create low-voltage wiring diagrams for electrified hardware using LibreOffice Draw, helping you communicate effectively with electricians and installers. Recommended prerequisites include COR117, COR133, COR140, COR147, DHC205, and DHC307.

EHC413 - Advanced Electrified Hardware Drawings (Only Available Online Instructor Led)

This advanced course builds on EHC403 and is recommended for those experienced with electrified hardware and familiar with COR133 or similar training. Using drawing software like LibreOffice Draw, you'll create complex wiring diagrams that integrate access control, intercoms, and life safety systems, preparing you for the EHC Certification Exam and future coursework in EHC423.

EHC423 - Advanced Electrified Hardware (8 hours)

This advanced course builds on COR133 and EHC403, teaching you how to lead the coordination of electrified hardware with other low-voltage systems to ensure seamless integration and reduce callbacks. Through hands-on exercises and real-world scenarios, you'll develop the skills to communicate effectively with project stakeholders and manage electrified openings with confidence and code compliance.
