Become a DSSF Ambassador
Presenter: The Door Security & Safety Foundation
In this webinar you will receive an overview of our campaign, Opening the Door to School Safety, and our new DSSF Ambassador Program. Upon completion of this webinar, participants can contact us to sign up as DSSF Ambassadors and receive a tool kit with turn-key messages and know-how for engaging with various audiences.
There are several states with pending and passed legislation designed to override the current building codes and install barricade devices. The more DSSF Ambassadors we have, the better we will be able to track and monitor this legislation, separate myths vs. facts to our key audiences, and educate elected officials, school administrators, parents, and other stakeholders. We understand that everyone has a different level of commitment they can offer. We've designed the program to be easy to engage in, including advocacy and many other types of activities. Every little bit counts!
Ready to get started? We’ve already welcomed several new DSSF Ambassadors to our program. If you haven’t yet signed up and are interested in participating, contact Sharon Newport at snewport@dhi.org to receive your tool kit and get started!

Accessibility Update
Presented by Rachael York, DHT, Specification Consultant, Mid Atlantic for Allegion
CEP Points: 2
For accessibility requirements, the model codes refer to ICC/A117.1 – Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, and a new edition of this standard was just published. Most new and existing buildings are also required to comply with the ADA Standards for Accessible Design. Other accessibility standards and laws may also affect door openings, like state-specific requirements and the Fair Housing Act.
With so many layers of requirements, it can be difficult to know which requirements apply to any given project. What is the limit on the operable force for door hardware? Are automatic operators required to have stand-by power? Are retrofit security devices required to comply with the accessibility standards? By the end of this webinar, you will be able to identify how, when and where to use the applicable code requirements and resources available on accessibility for both new and existing construction.
